Our Board Members
Steve Walkup, Chairman
Steve is the Chairman of the Board. He worked for the Denver Rescue Mission for 24 years; 21 as the Vice President of Programs, and prior to retirement as the Spiritual Director. Steve has sat on many boards and held officer positions for organizations around the world. He has years of experience in building successful programs and has a deep passion to serve the city.
Steve and his wife, Lori, have two grown children and seven grandchildren. Steve enjoys sports, golf, hiking, fishing, and traveling.
Jordan Fischer, President and Treasurer
Jordan is originally from Virginia. He received a degree in Business from The King's College in New York City, where he met Katie. He spent 8 years learning fundraising, non-profit management, operations and finance before co-founding Hope In Our City in 2014.
Jordan and his wife, Katie, have 4 children. They enjoy all sports, the outdoors, and traveling.
Katie Fischer, Vice President
Katie is from Colorado and has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from The King’s College. She has been working with youth in the inner city and internationally for over 20 years.
She and Jordan have 3 boys and a girl. She enjoys attending her children’s various sporting events, eating, and traveling.
Rudy Garza III , Member
Rudy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities degree from the College at Southwestern. He has actively served his community in various capacities including as a supervisor at Union Gospel Mission, an investigator for CPS, a youth worker for the Denver Family Crisis Center, and currently working to become a DV and DUI counselor at an outpatient clinic. Currently he serves as the lead Pastor for Calvary Familia, a church located in southwest Denver.
He and his wife Cindy enjoy hiking, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.
Stacie Shehata , Member
Stacie was born in Taiwan. Her family immigrated to the US when she was 10. After graduating from Cornell University with a pre-med concentration and Bachelor degree in History, God’s providence led her to serve at the Lillian Trasher Orphanage in Asyut, Egypt.
Later, returning to the States, she worked in an university in NYC while studying part-time on a Masters degree in Biblical Counseling at Westminster Seminary. Before completing the degree, she moved to Colorado to marry Joseph, who was finishing his internship with a church in Denver in Biblical Counseling. Joseph & Stacie have been married for 18 years, and have 3 beautiful Egyptian-Taiwanese American born children! Stacie homeschools their children, now for 14 years and counting. She has a passion for education & cross-culture missions work.
Mike Augustine, Member
Mike was born and raised in Denver. He attended Sabin Elementary School and graduated from Kennedy High School. He has a Master of Education from The College of Saint Scholastica, Duluth Minnesota. He has been a basketball and football coach for over 40 years, and involved in education since 1977. During this time he has served as a coach, security guard, teacher, Dean, Assistant Principal and currently is the Director of Counseling at Mullen High School. One of his mottos for kids is - make the right decision the next time you need to make a decision.
Mike is married to his lovely wife, Joanne. Together they have two adult children and two grandchildren.
